THE QUIREBOYS

White Trash Blues 2017

“White Trash Blues” gives a new spin on 12 blues tracks, some of which would be known to everyone with even a passing interest in the genre and some which only the true aficionados would be aware of.
The Quireboys are most definitely in the latter camp. Which is why it makes almost perfect sense to name it after one of their own songs. As far back as 1990 the band were mixing bluesy elements into their sound in a way that the then teenage MTV simply wasn’t aware of before.

All of which reinforces the point here that these are not carbon copies, but nor do they achingly try to be 'modern'. Rather they are loving versions of brilliant songs by a band who has captured completely the fun of what they were trying to do.
“White Trash Blues” then, the rare exception that proves the rule.
Strongly Recommended

DUDLEY TAFT

Dudley Taft Band

Taft started a blues/rock band in 2007 under his own name, with Scott Vogel on drums and Evan Sheeley on Bass. Their first CD, entitled "Left For Dead" was released in March 2010, with a mixture of originals and traditional blues covers. The album was given five stars by John Vermilyea of Blues Underground Network. In 2011, Taft signed a two record deal with the German-based label M.i.G. "Left For Dead" was released world-wide on August 26, 2011, with the addition of a bonus track "When The Levee Breaks".

Dudley Taft toured the Netherlands in January 2012. Reviews from bluesmagazine.nl, Keysandchords and more all rated ***** 5 stars for the "Left for Dead" CD. Taft then hired John Kessler to play bass and Chris Leighton to play drums for the next CD and live shows in Seattle and Europe. A DVD was released on March 5, 2012 called "Dudley Taft live at Highway 99," performed August 6, 2011 in Seattle, Washington.

On May 7, 2013, Taft released "Deep Deep Blue," his second blues rock studio album on his own label, American Blues Artist Group, and in Europe on M.i.G. Deep Deep Blue won the Best USA Blues Rock Album on the Underground Blues Network. Taft made three HD videos for Deep Deep Blue, "The Waiting" directed by Alex Hoelscher, starring Alyssa Lynn James; "God Forbid" directed by Matthew Kreig, and "Meet Me In The Morning" by Matt Minnotte and David Molinatto.

"Screaming In The Wind", produced by Tom Hambridge, was released in March 2014. The band toured the US and the EU May through September, playing the Netherlands, Germany and Poland with John Kessler on Bass, Carl Martin on drums and Eric Robert on Keyboards. Taft made three HD videos for Screaming In The Wind, "Screaming in The Wind," "Hard Time Killing Floor Blues," and "Sleeping In The Sunlight" all directed by Alex Hoelscher. The album made the top 10 Blues Rock albums of 2014 on the Blues Underground Network and the song "Red Line" was the #1 single on the Hit Tracks Top 100.

In February 2015, Taft went to Nashville to record keyboard overdubs on the upcoming album "Skin and Bones" with legendary keyboardist Reese Wynans of Stevie Ray Vaughan fame. The band toured Europe again in April and March 2015, and released the fourth studio album "Skin and Bones" on October 16, 2015 on the American Blues Artist Group label. The song "Skin and Bones" charted #1 on the Hit Tracks Top 100 in Europe, and #2 on the Roots Music Report's Blues Rock Radio chart. Taft's music can be heard on Pandora, Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming services, as well as Sirus/XM's Bluesville channel 70.

The album, "Live in Europe" was released in May 2016 with 13 tracks that were recorded during the 2014 and 2015 European tours in Vriezenveen, Netherlands and Kielce, Poland. Eight cover songs and five originals populate the cd, with "Broken Down" reaching the #1 spot on the Hit Tracks Top 100 chart in Europe.

FIVE HORSE JOHNSON

JAKE LEG BOOGIE (2017)

When Five Horse Johnson formed back in 1995, referring to themselves as a “blues band,” a few brows might well have been furrowed. But this is a band that has always understood that the blues isn’t a formula – it’s a way of looking at the world. Their take on the blooze is as a dirty, sensual thing, enhanced with a healthy dose of humor.

Now some two decades and seven albums into their career – with eighth Jake Leg Boogie, set to drop in Summer 2017 on Small Stone – Five Horse Johnson have dug out a niche of their own, a genuine love and respect for traditional blues and classic rock leading them to likewise become one of the most loved and respected bands in the heavy rock underground. Always a freight train live, they’ve toured the US (with Clutch and Halfway to Gone) and Europe extensively (including the festival circuit), gathering fans, friends, and drinking partners all over the Western World.

BLACK OAK COUNTY

BLACK OAK COUNTY - BLACK OAK COUNTY (2017)

Black Oak County are a band out of Esbjerg, Denmark. They are a quartet of young guys who have been playing previously under the name Great White Buffalo, but chose the name change after some “legal issues.” Listing influences such as Slash and Zakk Wylde, they go after a modern rock sound in the vein of (hard rock) Nickelback, the UK’s Stone Broken, or fellow countrymen Volbeat.  In my opinion, they do it better and with more enthusiasm and creativity than any of those aforementioned bands. Recorded at Hansen Studios, which is owned by renowned producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Amaranthe, Pretty Maids), the band teamed up with producer and engineer, Jonas Haagensen, in order to capture their tour-tested songs and the energy of their energetic live performance onto an album.

JAY JESSE JOHNSON

Born in rural Indiana, Jay Jesse Johnson started playing guitar at the age of 10 and grew up listening to the sounds of blues, country and rock & roll. As a teenager, Johnson began paving his own way into the music world and was soon performing at local dances, events and nightclubs around the Midwest.
When he was 18, Johnson moved to the East coast and started gigging in the New York City / New England bar scene with regional bands, Sass and Cryer. While doing some studio recording, he landed the gig as the guitarist for ArcAngel (CBS/Portrait Records) and appeared on MTV in 1983 with the band’s hit single, “Tragedy”.

It was followed by “I’ve Got An Axe To Grind” released in 2007 that featured Charlie Huhn (Foghat/Victory), BJ Zampa (Dokken, House of Lords) and Matt Zeiner (Dickey Betts). In 2009, his third solo album, “Play That Damn Guitar” was released on Grooveyard Records. BOBBY MESSANO

Bad Movie (2017)

... escucha a Bobby Messano.
